I have seen (and used) the knowledge article about exporting dedupe grid data and then marking winning records.  I think it would be worthwhile if we had a better method to do this where DT can read in an updated grid file and use the ID's in the spreadsheet to do the deduping.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback! I think this newer feature may be what you are looking for.

Here is a blurb from our help docs on using a file to denote master and non-master records using the Salesforce record ID:

Select from Master / Non-Master Records From File New in Version 2.7!

Select this tab to read in an external spreadsheet of master ids and their corresponding non-master IDs for deduping.  Only 2 columns needed in the input file, Master ID & Non-Master ID.  DemandTools will pull up the duplicate groups and all the requested related fields then users can merge using all of DemandTools advanced merging options.

  1. Select the object to dedupe and fields to show
  2. Click Select File and browse to select the desired input file (xls, xlsx, csv, mdb (32bit only),accdb and udl)
    • For xls, xlsx, mdb or accdb files select the worksheet or table and click Use to load the data
  3. Specify the columns that contain the Master Record ID and Non-Master ID's
    • For multiple duplicates to the same master record repeat the row with the next non-master ID

When using this option, users will proceed DIRECTLY to Step 3 Merge Control as no matching criteria will be needed.

Thanks, Olivia.  I tried this once but had a really hard time translating an export grid spreadsheet with two (or more) lines per dedupe grouping into a spreadsheet with one line for each pair.  I think this is a good step in the right direction, but didn't work so well for me in execution.

Any suggestions for how to get from the export grid to the Master/Non-Master spreadsheet?
