Using the Mid_2 formula in MassImpact to standardize Social Security Numbers in Salesforce.

I will be posting a weekly example of uses cases for our MassImpact formulas requested by our customers.  

We are often asked how to standardize Social Security Numbers using DemandTools.  This is a great use case for the Mid_2 formula.  

The Mid_2 formula is formally defined as "Returns the characters from the middle of a text string, given a starting position and length (number of characters to return)"

Assumptions:

  • Current format of the Social Security field is a string of 9 digits
  • The API name of the field used in this scenario is social_security_number__c
